Astronomers have found a new planet, which is said to be 2.7 times larger than Earth, confirmed as containing mostly water on its mass. According to this BBC article, it cites a source from Cornell University which found this planet orbiting a star back in 2009. This discovery is quite significant, as scientists have said in the past, “Where there’s water, there is life” (Or what we perceive/know as life).
Calculations have been made of the planet’s density which says that the planet (GJ1214B) has more water than Earth. It is considered a super-planet and one of the largest finds of a planet with so much water on it. Its proximity to Earth allows for further studies to be conducted.
Perhaps, there is an under water city with aliens, or perhaps there it is unlivable for some reason or the other; we don’t know. However, one day we will visit that planet and find out for sure. Though by then, anyone likely reading this today, won’t be alive, but the thought of human progress is really exciting.
